Rinaldi Claims Platform on Last Day of Ohio State Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio –University of Miami senior diver Melanie Rinaldi claimed first place on the 10-meter platform on the last day of competition at the Ohio State Invitational Sunday afternoon in the Buckeye’s Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Rinaldi turned in an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 256.80 to take first place. Junior Heather Bounds came in second behind Rinaldi with an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 254.97. <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>ArizonaState’s Cassidy Farwell rounded out the top three with a score of 250.71.
In the men’s platform, junior Derek Starks came in second with an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 331.95. Jonathan Wilcox of Florida won the event with a score of 336.90. Purdue’s Steven LoBue placed third with a score of 295.11.
12 schools took part in the diving competition including Arizona State, Bowling Green, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kenyon, Michigan State, Minnesota, OhioState, PennState and Purdue.
The Hurricanes return to action Friday, December 16th when they host North CarolinaState at 3:00 p.m. in the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool.
