ON MICHIGAN:
Michigan enters Tuesday night’s game with a record of 3-0 following a78-74 win over Butler on November 26. The Wolverines have been led thisseason by the inside-outside combination of senior guard Daniel Horton andjunior center Courtney Sims.
Horton leads the team in scoring (17.3 ppg), ranks second in assists (4.0apg) and is shooting 59.3 percent from the field, including 42.9 percent fromthree-point range. Sims ranks second on the team in scoring (15.3 ppg), leadsthe team in rebounding (7.0 rpg) and is shooting 76.9 percent from the field.Forward Lester Abram has also been impressive this season averaging 14.7points per game while shooting 65.4 percent from the field.
THE SERIES:
Miami and Michigan meet for the third time in basketball with theWolverines winning both previous encounters. Michigan and Miami first meton November 27, 1987 in the opening round of the Great Alaska Shootout, a109-76 Wolverine victory. The second meeting was in the opening round ofthe 1997 NIT, a 76-63 Michigan win in Ann Arbor.

Mardy Collins scored 19 points and had seven assists, andDustin Salisbery added 16 points to lead Temple to a 73-56 winover Miami at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pa.Miami, down by as many as 18, kept cutting away at Temple’sdouble-digit lead in the second half and pulled to within four (51-47) following a three-point basket by Denis Clemente with 9:28 toplay.
Temple’s Mark Tyndale (12 points) responded with fourquick points to push the lead back to eight. A steal and dunk byRob Hite pulled the Hurricanes within six (55-49) with 8:17 left.But Temple held Miami to one field goal over the final eight minutesto pull away.
Anytwane Robinson added 15 points and Mark Tyndalescored 12 for the Owls. Clemente led Miami with a career-high 19points. Robert Hite added 18 for the Hurricanes.
Preseason National Player of the Year candidate GuillermoDiaz was held to six points snapping his string of consecutivedouble-figure scoring games at 32.
Salisbery carried the Owls in the first half, missing only oneof his six shots and hitting all three three-pointers for 13 points.Temple made 11 of its first 15 shots from the floor, built an 18-point lead and led 36-22 at halftime.
ON THE COACHES:
Miami head coach Frank Haith is in his second season withthe Hurricanes. His record career record is 20-15 (.571), includinga 4-2 mark this season.
Michigan head coach Tommy Amaker is in his fifth seasonwith the Wolverines and ninth season overall. His record atMichigan is 67-60 (.528), while his overall mark is 135-115 (.540).
BANKUNITED CENTER:
On November 16 the University of Miami and BankUnitedannounced they entered into a 10-year agreement to rename theConvocation Center the BankUnited Center. The $48 millionfacility, which was totally funded through private donations,opened on January 4, 2003.
DIAZ NAMED WOODEN/NAISMITH CANDIDATE:
Junior guard Guillermo Diaz (Carolina, Puerto Rico) hasbeen named a preseason candidate for both the Wooden Awardand Naismith Award which are presented annually to the top collegiatebasketball player in the nation.
Diaz averaged 18.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.5steals per game last season, and was the only player in the ACC torank among the top-10 (conference games only) in scoring (2nd),field goal percentage (8th), three-point field goal percentage(10th) and steals (3rd).
MIAMI vs. NON-CONFERENCE OPPONENTS:
Since UM began conference play in 1991-92, the Hurricaneshave compiled an 104-48 (.684) record against non-conferenceopponents, including a 73-16 (.820) mark at home. Miami is 4-2against non-conference opponents last season.
HURRICANES TEAM UP WITH TOYS FOR TOTS:
The University of Miami men’s basketball team has teamedup with the United States Marine Corp to participate in the 2005holiday Toys for Tots program. Several marines will be on handprior to the December 3rd game versus Birmingham Southern aswell as the December 10th game against Wofford, collecting toysfor underprivileged children.

Lloyd Reshard Jr., a member of the United States MarineCorp will be performing the National anthem prior to theDecember 3rd game versus Birmingham-Southern and theDecember 10th game versus Wofford. Reshard, a University ofMiami of Miami student, took time off from his studies to servea tour of duty in Iraq. He recently returned from combat andwill resume his studies in January. He will have one semester leftbefore receiving a degree in Vocal Performance.
HURRICANES SIGN THREE:
Head coach Frank Haith signed three recruits during theearly signing period. Joining the Hurricanes next season will be 6-8 forward Dwayne Collins (Miami Senior), 6-2 guard James Dews(Westchester, Ohio) and 6-10 forward Fabio Nass (Catarina,Brazil).
