Seven Hurricanes Reach Finals at Georgia Tech Invitational

Standout Christine Zwiegers was once again Miami’s best finisher as the freshman came in third in the 100-butterfly with a time of 55.74 merely a second behind the first place finisher. Junior Andrea Hughes finished fourth behind Zwiegers in a time of 56.66.
Junior Kristen Lunak finished 13th in the 400-Individual Medley after swimming in the B-Final. Lunak touched the wall in a time of 4:41.05.
Miami had three swimmers return for the evening session in the 100-breaststroke highlighted be redshirt-freshman Melinda Hochard who finished seventh in a time of 1:06.75. Freshman Christina Rau came in 14th with a time of 1:08.52 while sophomore Amy Caron touched in 1:10.44 for 22nd.
School record holder Ashley Knapp finished sixth in the 100-backstroke in a time of 58.67.
The meet concluded with the 800-freestyle relay where the Hurricanes finished seventh. The relay of sophomore Melissa Froelich, freshman Sarah Lozier, Rau and sophomore Casey Heffernan turned in a time of 7:43.50.
No. 16 Florida State leads the women’s meet with 803.50 points, followed by Georgia Tech (393), FAU (370.50), Rice (366), WKU (347), Gardner-Webb (199), Miami (176) and New Orleans (46).
The Georgia Tech Invitational will conclude with prelims on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. with finals starting at 3:30 p.m. The entire meet can be followed via live stats on www.ramblinwreck.com.
