Andy.. Malone: Hi… im an 8th grader and I wanna try out for highschool football next year and I wanna be a running back or a reciever… do you have any tips?
Eric Winston: Just set your sights on what you want to do and stick to your goals. Don’t be afraid of adversity and be ready to work hard.
Taylor (Easley, SC): What is it like to be a Miami Hurricane?
Eric Winston: It’s been a great experience to be here. It’s been a lot of fun to be part of a program with such tradition and it’s something I’m going to be proud of the rest of my life.
Scott (Indiana): I think I can speak for all Hurricane Fan’s when I say – It has been a pleasure following your career at the U!!! I am sure your efforts will be rewarded next fall when you’re playing on Sunday’s!!! One quick question – Having played in the Big East and ACC, which do you prefer? Besides the FSU and Va Tech rivalries, do you see another ACC team emerging as the “next rival”? Goodluck and Go Canes!!!
Eric Winston: I love playing in the ACC because of the new venues and the new teams we get to play. Right now it’s too hard to say who will be our next rival, but within the next two or three years I wouldn’t be surprised to see another team emerge as “the game to watch” in the ACC against us.
mike: yo!
Eric Winston: Yo, yo, yo!
Willy from Buffalo: What will you focus on this week as you prepare for UVA?
Eric Winston: I’m sure there will be an emphasis on protection and consistency.
Philip Hebel, Jacksonville: In your opinion, who is the fastest player on your team this year? GO CANES?
Eric Winston: I’m going to go with Sinorice Moss. All you have to do is watch his touchdown catch against Wake Forest to see what I’m talking about.
Steve (Springfield, IL): Has the “U” Lived up to the hype which you bought into as a high school Star?
Steve (Springfield, IL): Has the “U” Lived up to the hype which you bought into as a high school Star?
Eric Winston: Yes. It’s been great being a part of this tradition. Getting to play in the Fiesta Bowl and the Orange Bowl has been a great experience, and getting to know all the coaches and players here have also been good experiences for me.
Lawrenceburg: How do you prepare mentally and physically on game days?
Eric Winston: I try not to think about the game too much, until the pregame meal. That’s when I really start to focus on the game. If you just focus on the game all day and it’s a night game, it’s too much of a mental strain. You want to get ready with the time you have so that you’re focused when the game comes. It’s different for everyone, that’s just the way I do it.
George (Chicago): Tell me about the Friday night Hightlight videos that you guys get to see at the hotel. I have heard that they are a reward when you win. Will the public ever get to see the Friday night videos?
Eric Winston: Our video coordinator does a great job putting those together. He puts music to all the highlights and uses graphics to enhance the videos, like putting crosshairs on the ball or using a split screen to show different angles of the play. They actually showed all the highlight videos at CanesFest this year.
Tony F. (Ft. Worth,Tx.): We here back in Texas have followed your career from HS and throughout your days @ The U. And with the NFL Draft less than 5 months away;Would you prefer to play back here for the Cowboys or is there another team that impresses you.
Eric Winston: Obviously I’d love to be close to home again, playing for the Cowboys or the Texans. But there are many other teams that I would love to be a part of.
Bill (Melbourne,FL): Do you want to play for the Miami Dolphins.
Eric Winston: Sure. I’d love to play for the Dolphins.
Adam Atlanta: whose defensive line gave you the most trouble to protect Wright and open up holes for Moss/Jones/Thomas so far this year??? GO CANES!!!
Eric Winston: Florida State and Georgia Tech, our two losses, had defensive lines that stood out.
Adith (Coral Springs, FL): Eric there has been a lot of great linemen throughout UM’s history, you being one of them. How does the our talent on the OL rate next year.
Eric Winston: We’ll be a little inexperienced, but there is definitely some talent among the younger guys. Andrew Bain and Derrick Morse have some good playing experience and Anthony Wollschlager has done a great job this season. In addition, Reggie Youngblood is coming along nicely at left tackle. The spring will be a learning experience but it will provide great practice time for these guys to gel together.
Matt (Dover, FL): Go Canes!!!!!!!!! thank you so much for beating up Va Tech, i got tired of the media praising them. who is the toughest D-lineman that you’ve gone up against this year?
Eric Winston: Kamerion Wimbley from Florida State was good and so was Daryl Tapp from Virginia Tech was also a good player.
Steve (Detroit,MI): when you watch video, is it the same as what I see on TV or do you have a person that films it for the “U”? If someone films them, Do they have any openings?
Eric Winston: We have a whole video staff dedicated to filming practices and games. You should call up there and ask about openings.
Will tampa, fl: do u think the canes need a new stadium if so when do u think they will build one.GO CANES!!!!
Eric Winston: I think there needs to be improvements to the Orange Bowl but it’s a great place to play.
Alex Miami: What do you think is the biggest difference between Dan Werner’s offense and Rob Chudzinski’s offense?
Eric Winston: Coach Chud’s offense was more of a West Coast, short-passing attack with many zone runs. Coach Werner has more of a downfield mentality in the pass game and likes the power runs more.
Marcus(Tallahassee): how will the pace of practice change this week. Go Canes!!!!!!!!
Eric Winston: It will be business as usual. We’ll all be excited to get out there and play Virginia.
Moderator: Okay. We have time for a few more questions for Eric.
Mike from Grand Island: I was just at Notre Dame this past weekend, the atmosphere was incredible, describe the atmosphere in the Orange Bowl on game day. Go Canes!!!
Eric Winston: Electric. It’s a great atmoshphere that’s different from all other venues in college football.
A.J./Phoenix: Coming off of your knee surgery, did you have doubts on getting back to your top level style of play?
Eric Winston: No, I dedicated myself to the rehab and I owe a lot of the trainers and physicians who have helped me along the way.
Eric Winston: Thanks for having me guys. I enjoyed answering your questions and I hope I gave you guys what you were looking for. GO CANES!
