Banada Advances to the Consolation semifinals at ITA Southern Regional

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>ATHENS, Ga. – Junior Audrey Banada outlasted two opponents to reach the semifinal of the “A” draw consolation at the ITA Southern Regional Championships Saturday afternoon at the University of Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Banada outlasted FIU’s Egle Petrauskaite, 1-6, 6-2,10-5, to advance to Sunday’s semifinal where she will face UAB’s Gulsah Esen. Earlier in the day, Banada defeated Georgia’s Eugenia Subbotina, 7-5, 7-5.
Sophomore Patricia Starzyk suffered a 6-2, 6-0 “A” draw quarterfinal loss to top-seeded Robin Stephenson of Alabama.
Freshman Monika Dancevic and junior Ana Rupic also suffered losses in the “A” draw consolation. Dancevic fell to USF’s Neyssa Etienne, 6-3, 6-4 as Rupic was defeated by Georgia’s Danya Ivanov, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles, Miami’s eighth seeded Melissa Applebaum/Dancevic pair retired with the score 3-1 to give Georgia’s top seeded Basu/Robinson tandem a quarterfinal victory.
