Oct. 5, 2005

Coral Gables, Fla. (www. hurricanesports.com) – – Miami Hurricanes senior cornerback Kelly Jennings has been named a semi-finalist for the 2005 Draddy Trophy – the Academic Heisman – as announced by The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.

Jennings is one of 184 candidates nominated and one of seven from the ACC. Each school is limited to one nominee each, and semi-finalists must be a senior or a graduate student in their final year of eligibility, have a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, have outstanding football ability as a first-team player, and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.

Jennings graduated in December 2004 with a degree in finance and is currently pursuing a second degree in business management. This season, he is the Hurricanes’ fourth leading tackler with 20. He also leads the ACC with six pass breakups and has one forced fumble. Jennings has started all four games so far at left cornerback.

Known in many circles as the “Academic” Heisman, the Draddy Trophy continues to be one of college football’s most sought after and competitive awards, recognizing a student-athlete as the best in the country for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary community leadership.

The Draddy Trophy was first awarded in 1990, and Jennings has the opportunity to join Joaquin Gonzalez, who received the award in 1997, as the only two Hurricanes to receive this prestigious award.
