The University of Miami women’s basketball team will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. Monday, January 17 to take on No. 8 North Carolina at the Carmichael Auditorium at 2 p.m.

The Game
Looking for their first road win and first ACC victory, Miami (8-7, 0-1) heads to Chapel Hill, N.C. Monday, January 17 to take on No. 8 North Carolina (13-2, 1-1) at the Carmichael Auditorium at 2 p.m. The Hurricanes’ game with UNC will mark the fifth meeting all-time and the first since 1992 between UM and the Tar Heels, who lead the all-time series at 3-2. Monday’s game will be carried live on the Sunshine Network, Fox Sports South and Comcast Sports with Beth Mowins and Dan Bonner calling the action. Jeremy Marks-Peltz and Doug Kroll will call the game live on the air waves in the South Florida area on WVUM (90.5 FM) and can also be heard live onwww.hurricanesports.com.

The Hurricanes
The Hurricanes travel to Chapel Hill in search of their first road win as well as their first ACC victory. UM will look to end their road woes, averaging just 51 points per game on opponents’ home floor compared to 71.9 points per game at the Convocation Center. UM has, however, turned in 74.8 points per game over their last five contests, led by the nation’s leading scorer, junior Tamara James. James tops out the NCAA and the ACC, averaging 24.5 points per game, while averaging 29.8 over her last five games. James also leads the Hurricanes in rebounding, averaging 6.8 per game and enters Monday’s game coming off a 26-point, 10-rebound outing against Wake Forest to record her first double-double of the season. Senior Yalonda McCormick is second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.9 per game and is second in the ACC in both steals per game (3.29) and assists per game (6.1). Freshman Albrey Grimsley is averaging 7.8 points over the last five games while senior Fallon Phanord, who, along with James, are the only two UM players to start all 15 games this season, has recorded career-best in almost every category this season.

The Tar Heels
Head coach Sylvia Hatchell and the No. 8 Tar heels claimed their first ACC win of the season Friday night with a 77-75 win at NC State to improve to 13-2 overall and 1-1 in the ACC this season. UNC leads the conference in points per game, averaging 81.6 per contest while only allowing 55.1 points per game. The Tar Heels are lead by Preseason All-ACC selections, sophomores Ivory Latta and Camille Little along with freshman Erlana Larkins. Latta and Larkins both enter Monday’s game averaging 15.6 points per game while Little has netted 11.7 per game. Larkins, who has scored double figures in 14 games this season, is also the ACC’s leader in field goal percentage, shooting 65.4 percent from the field this season and Latta tops the conference in free throw shooting, hitting 92.9 percent from the stripe. Junior La’Tangela Atkinson leads the Tar Heels in rebounding with 7.5 per game – fourth-best in the ACC.
