Miami Upended by Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech, led by senior midfielder Molly McCall’s one goal and two assists, downed the University of Miami women’s soccer team, 5-0, Thursday evening at Tech Soccer Stadium.
Playing in their first road ACC game of the season, the Hurricanes (5-6-1, 0-3-0 ACC) managed just 11 shots on the night while allowing the Hokies (5-5-1, 1-2-0 ACC) to take 20 attempts.
Virginia Tech’s first goal of the night came in the 33rd minute when McCall intercepted a ball around midfield and worked to get off a shot past UM sophomore keeper Lauren McAdam, who would go on to post five saves.
The Hokies’ Laurie Beth Puglisi came off the bench to score Virginia Tech’s second goal just under six minutes later.
Virginia Tech added three more goals in the second half to close out the 5-0 win while handing the Hurricanes their first conference road loss of the season.
Miami returns to action Sunday, traveling to Charlottesville, Va. to take on Virginia at 1 p.m.
