MIAMI, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team squared-off with intra-city rival Florida International in a two-overtime, 110 minute contest before concluding the game with a scoreless tie Wednesday night at University Park.
Led by freshman forward Bryn Heinicke’s game-high six shots, the Hurricanes (4-2-1) out-shot the Golden Panthers (2-1-3) by a total of 18-to-7, but could not capitalize on seven shots on goal before the game ended after four periods with both teams scoreless.
Heinicke’s six total shots, as well as her three attempts on the FIU goal, led all players followed by FIU’s Valerie Patrick, who recorded three shots.
UM keeper Lauren McAdam fended off the Golden Panther attack, recording five saves while the Hurricane defensive efforts, led by senior Ashley Durkee, junior Kristen Chapman and sophomore Akilah Moore held FIU shotless in both overtime periods.
The Hurricanes return to action Friday, traveling to Auburn, Ala. to take on Auburn at 7 p.m.
