Sept. 11, 2005
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Sarah Uyenishi of 14th-ranked Marquette netted a goal in the eighth minute of overtime to hand the University of Miami women’s soccer team a 1-0 loss Sunday afternoon at the Hoosier Classic at Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington, Ind.
UM (4-2) keeper Lauren McAdam recorded two of her six saves on the afternoon in the overtime period including a shot by Marquette’s (6-0) Michelle Pitzl fired off just seconds before Uyenishi footed the game-winner in the game’s 98th minute.
The Golden Eagles out-shot UM 17-to-11 on the afternoon with all but three members of Marquette’s starting lineup recording at least one shot. The Hurricanes’ main scoring threat came from freshman Bryn Heinicke who tallied six shots on the day with one on goal.
Marquette opened on the offensive, recording seven of their nine shots of the first half in the game’s first 20 minutes, but McAdam and the UM defensive efforts held off the attack to head into the half scoreless.
Miami regrouped in the second half to out-shoot the Golden Eagles 6-to-4, but couldn’t penetrate the Marquette goal as regulation ended with both teams scoreless.
Marquette came out attacking in the overtime period, recording three shots before Uyenishi’s game winner at the 97:03 mark to snap Miami’s three-game win streak.
The Hurricanes will return to action Wednesday, traveling across town to face inner-city rival Florida International at 7 p.m.
