Velazquez Places Third on 10-Meter Platform at NCAA Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – University of Miami diver Miguel Velazquez placed third on the 10-meter platform in the final day of competition at the 2005 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships that were held at the University Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota Saturday night.
Velazquez earned First-Team All-American honors for the seventh time in his career when he finished in third with a score of 543.50. The senior from Mexico City, Mexico also garnered First-team All-American accolades on the three-meter springboard Friday evening.
Sophomore Derek Starks finished in fourth place with a score of 508.60 for his second career First-Team All-American honor.
Auburn’s Matthew Bricker claimed the platform title with a score of 604.35.
The Hurricanes, who only fielded a diving squad, finished 18th out of 35 schools with 49 total points. Miami finished the second highest out of all the Atlantic Coast Conference schools, second only to Virginia who finished 13th with 111 points. Aubrun took home their third-straight NCAA Championship with 491 total points.
