Hurricanes Handle Wisconsin in 5-2 Victory

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team swept all three doubles matches and took four-of-six singles matches enroute to 5-2 victory over Wisconsin Wednesday evening at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Playing in their final non-conference tilt of the season, the Hurricanes (9-6) rolled past Wisconsin (5-8) in doubles winning on all three courts.
UM’s tandem of junior Tim Krebs and freshman Vivek Subramanian bettered their undefeated mark to 10-0 on the season downing UW’s Alex and Lachezar Kasarov, 8-5 on the No. 1 court.
Junior Eric Hechtman and classmate John Hoyes won in the No. 2 position, defeating the Badgers’ Jordan Raemisch and Steve Guntly, 8-4, while sophomore Josh Cohen and freshman Ryan Waits overtook Elliot Bisnow and Jeremy Sonkin, 8-2, on the No. 3 court to seal the doubles point for UM.
In singles play, Krebs, who is ranked 67th nationally individually, downed Sonkin, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2 to improve to 9-0 in non-conference play this spring.
Hechtman defeated Lachezar Kasarov, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3 while Cohen downed Alex Kasarov, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 1 spot.
Subramanian claimed UM’s final point of the evening, rallying from a 7-6 first-set defeat to overcome Wisconsin’s Mark Weinig 7-5 in the second set and 10-3 in the match tie-break.
The Hurricanes will return to action Sunday, March 27 when they host ACC rival North Carolina at noon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
