Men's Diving Heads to ACC Championships

CORAL GABLES, Fla. –
The <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Miami men’s diving squad will head to Atlanta, Ga. to take part in their inaugural Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship Wednesday, Feb. 23 through Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Miami will send their three man roster of senior Miguel Velazquez and sophomores Derek Starks and Toby Brooks. Velazquez, a five-time All-American, finished third in the 10-meter platform (533.55) and fourth in both the 3-meter (613.50) and one-meter (340.10) during the 2004 NCAA Championships. Starks earned All-American honors in the 10-meter platform and was named last year’s BIG EAST Most Outstanding Diver after winning the 3-meter (550.85) and the 10-meter platform (353.15). Starks is currently first in the ACC on the 1-meter board (373.45).
The Hurricanes are slated to begin competing on Thursday with the 1-meter preliminaries at 12:45 p.m. followed by finals at 7:00 p.m.
