Hurricanes Set Season-Best Marks at ACC Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. –

Both the University of Miami women’s swimming and diving team’s 800 freestyle and 200 medley relays set season-best marks on the first day of the ACC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center Wednesday evening.

The team of senior Katalin Ferenczi, sophomore Nancy Gajos and freshmen Lauren Shue and Taylor McFarlane finished with a time of 7:31.13, besting their seeded time of 7:50.21 for eighth place. Ferenczi set a career-best mark with her 200 freestyle leadoff split time of 1:54.03. Gajos, Shue and McFarlane’s splits were also the fastest of their career, while McFarlane’s split of 1:49.82 marked the fastest 200 freestyle time of any Miami swimmer this season.

The 200 medley relay team of sophomore Ashley Knapp, senior Colleen Adkins, Gajos and freshman Emerson Davis also set a season-best time of 1:48.26 for seventh place.

The Hurricanes are now in sixth place with 46 points after one day of competition. Maryland leads after day one with a point total of 80. Virginia is second (68), North Carolina third (64), Clemson fourth (52), Duke fifth (48), NC State seventh (40), Florida State eighth (30), Georgia Tech ninth (28) and Virginia Tech 10th (26).

The ACC Championship meet will continue Thursday with prelims at 11:00 a.m. and finals at 7:00 p.m. The entire meet can be followed on www.ramblinwreck.com.
