Hurricanes Conclude Georgia Diving Invitational

The University of Miami’s diving squad concluded the final day of the Georgia Diving Invitational Wednesday afternoon with the platform competition at Georgia’s Gabrielsen Natatorium.
The Hurricanes, who reigned over the boards during Tuesday’s competition after taking home first in the men’s 3-meter and women’s 1-meter events, closed out the meet with fourth place finishes in the platform competition.
Senior Miguel Velazquez took home fourth place with a score of 530.75 in what turned out to be a close race for third place. Sophomore Derek Starks followed with a fifth place performance after tallying a score of 506.50. Georgia’s Chris Colwill claimed the victory a score of 546.50.
Freshman Jenna Dreyer, the Hurricanes’ most successful performer in the three day meet, placed fourth with a score of 377.00. Sophomore Heather Bounds placed eighth after scoring 366.25. Purdue’s Carrie Cambridge won the event with a score of 407.35.
Miami’s swimming and diving squad returns to action when they host the first annual Matt Gribble Invitational Friday, January 7th, which will take place all day at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool.
