CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Junior Tamara James turned in a game-high 29 points to lead the University of Miami women’s basketball team past UCF, 69-50, Monday night at the Convocation Center.

With the win, the Hurricanes (4-5), who have now won seven straight over UCF (2-5), snap a three-game losing streak while improving to 3-0 in home games this season.

James fell one rebound shy of a double-double on the night, pulling down nine rebounds, including seven in the first half. Senior Fallon Phanord also ended one rebound short of double figures with a career-best nine rebounds.

The Hurricanes traded points with UCF early on in the first half with neither team leading by more than six through the first 10 minutes of play. Up by two points, UM allowed a lay up by UCF’s Takira Houston with 3:48 mark, tying the game at 22-22.

James would hit a pair of free throws just seconds later to put Miami up by two before eventually going on to take an 32-24 lead into the half.

With the start of the second half, UM distanced the lead to 13 points at 43-30 a little over five minutes in half and led by 20 at 62-42 just under nine minutes later at the 6:01 mark.

The Hurricanes never let the Golden Knights within 16 points of the lead for the remainder of the game, going on to take the 69-50 victory.

The Hurricanes will return to action Monday, December 20, hosting Montana at the Convocation Center at 7 p.m.
