Hurricanes Primed for Georgia Tech Invitational

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami swimming and diving team will travel to Atlanta, Ga. for the Georgia Tech Invitational that will be held from November 19th through the 21st at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.

Also participating in the three-day meet will be instate rivals Florida and FAU, as well as, NC State, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia and Georgia Tech.

The Hurricanes are seeded fourth in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:53.4 behind two Florida relays and a Tennessee squad. Senior Manon van Rooijen is seeded third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.35. Classmate Katalin Ferenczi’s time of 57.91, seeds her fourth in the 100-yard backstroke while freshman Lauren Shue’s 1000-yard freestyle time of 10:14.82 was used to seed her fourth in the 1650 freestyle. Sophomore Nancy Gajos is seeded third in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.91.

The Georgia Tech Aquatic Center was also the site of the 1996 Summer Olympic Games and will host the 2005 Men and Women’s ACC Championships. The meet will follow the NCAA order of events with prelims and finals being swum in all but the 1650 freestyle and in all relays. The meet will be in short course yards and all finals will consist of three heats of eight swimmers.
