Own An Authentic Replica 2001 National Championship Trophy
Nov. 5, 2004
In 2001, under Coach Larry Coker, the Miami Hurricanes finished with an astounding 12-0 record, including a blasting of Nebraska 37-14 in the Rose Bowl. This victory gave UM its fifth National Championship and had many believing it was the school’s best team ever. According to UM Offensive Line Coach Art Kehoe, the only link to all five Hurricane national title teams, “Offense, defense, special teams – this team is loaded. It’s the best one I’ve ever seen, and I think we could line up and play with any college team that’s ever been!”
Now you can own a piece of UM history by winning a Desktop Edition replica of The Coaches’ Trophy at the Official Hurricanes Auction. It is made to the same exacting standards as the beautiful crystal trophy awarded on the field. The trophy is a fine work of art, from the gleaming black base to the individually handcrafted leaded crystal football. It is a 1/3-size replica of the full-size original and includes a Certificate of Authenticity from the American Football Coaches Association. This sequentially numbered replica is number MIA2001-DE2, and this extremely low number makes it highly desirable to collectors.
“The Coaches’ Trophy” was the fourth awarded to the University of Miami. Appropriately, the trophy was the inspiration of former University of Miami Assistant Football Coach William A. “Billy” Proulx in the early 1980s and his company, Black Dog Sports, continues to produce this now-world-famous National Championship Trophy for the American Football Coaches Association. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the UM Athletic Department. The auction is part of a nationwide program with College Sports Online, which partners with Miami Athletics and nearly 160 university athletic departments and conferences to manage and maintain Official Athletic Sites.
