Hurricanes Have Best Tuesday Practice of the Year

Oct. 26, 2004

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The third-ranked Miami football team had its best Tuesday practice of the season in a two-hour afternoon at the Greentree Practice Facility. The Hurricanes take an ACC-best 3-0 league record into North Carolina’s Kenan Stadium Saturday for a 7 p.m. kickoff on ESPN2.

“This may have been the best Tuesday practice we have had all season,” Miami head coach Larry Coker said. “I really liked what I saw on the field today. The attitude was good and the guys were running around and finishing fast. We were just playing fast.”

Miami will be looking to put together its first complete game of the season on Saturday.

“I liked what I saw today, Coker said. “I think it is there, but offense, defense and special teams, we have to put it all together.”

Coker addressed some of the special teams miscues the Hurricanes made in their 45-31 win at North Carolina State last weekend. “You look at the N.C. State game and the kicking game alone,” Coker said, “we let ourselves down on special teams. Again, we have to dial our energy up, and we have to finish.”

Coker also admitted that his team has not played its best football, but he looks at it as a positive with five ACC games left on the slate. “We haven’t played our best,” Coker said. “But that is good. That means we have work to do, and we can get better.”

The Hurricanes return to the practice field on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. full-contact workout.
