Hurricanes Drop 2-1 Decision to UCF
Oct. 21, 2004
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Despite a goal by junior Lindsey Yach in the 87th minute, the University of Miami women’s soccer team could not overcome a two-goal deficit, falling to in-state rival UCF 2-1 Thursday night at Cobb Stadium.
Trailing 2-0 to the Golden Knights, Yach found the back of the left side of the net after knocking down a rebound on a shot by Andrea Radice that hit the crossbar at the 86:17 mark to score the Hurricanes’ lone goal of the match.
With the loss, Miami falls to 3-10-0 overall on the year while UCF improves to 13-3-1.
Following a 26-minute delay due to lightning to start the match, the Golden Knights scored their first goal of the night in the 24th minute when Summer Savage lofted an unassisted shot from nearly 25 yards out over the head of UM keeper Lauren McAdam and into the net, putting UCF up 1-0 heading into the half.
UCF extended the lead to two in the 51st minute when Courtney Baines passed a ball to the right wing to teammate Arielle Orr, who was able to hit the far left post past McAdam.
Down two goals, the Hurricanes began to press in an attempt to mount a comeback with less than a period remaining in the match. The Hurricanes’ rally began when Lindsay Curtin found a streaking Britney Butcher down the right side. Butcher crossed the ball to the middle of the box to an open Radice, who’s shot set up the Yach goal to cut the UCF lead to one.
With less than four minutes remaining in the match, the Hurricanes rally fell short as UCF held on to the one-point win.
The Hurricanes will play their final regular-season ACC match in their next outing, traveling to Blacksburg, Va. to take on fellow ACC newcomer, Virginia Tech Sunday at 1 p.m.
