Hurricanes Qualify Once Again For 'Pontiac Game Changing Performances'

Oct. 19, 2004

Coral Gables, Fla (www.hurricanesports.com) — – At one point against Louisville, the Hurricanes trailed 31-14. But with QB Brock Berlin and an explosive offense, you can’t count the `Canes out. That proved true again on Saturday, as the third-ranked Canes erased a 17-point deficit and beat the Cardinals 41-38, thanks to three touchdown passes by Berlin… and a clutch 78-yard punt return for a touchdown by Devin Hester. Hester’s timely fireworks display helped shift momentum back to Miami… and is one of only four “Pontiac Game Changing Performances” nominated on ESPN this week.

As a result, Miami is eligible for a $5,000 contribution from Pontiac to our General Scholarship Fund. But only if we win the overall vote total from the college football fans nationwide.

Here’s how it works. Each Saturday, ESPN will nominate four to five plays from the entire roster of college games that weekend – “game changing performances” that are the defining moments that led to victory.

Nominations are announced on Saturday night. And, from Sunday through Thursday morning, fans view the nominated plays on line at espn.com/pontiac, then vote for their favorite “Pontiac Game Changing Performance”.

The winning performance is announced during the Pontiac High Performance Halftime Report on ESPN Thursday night games. And the play selected by the fans earns a $5,000 contribution from Pontiac to the winning school’s general scholarship fund.

But it doesn’t end there. The winning play can also be eligible for the “Pontiac Game Changing Performance of the Year” competition in December. ESPN will select the top six plays at that time…and the play selected in fan voting as the best of the year will earn a $100,000 general scholarship fun contribution from Pontiac. But to get that far, we’ve got to win this week’s vote! So get on line, cast your ballet for the Hurricanes … and have your friends and family do the same!

By the way, while you’re on the site, you might also want to enter the contest to win signed sports memorabilia from NCAA greats like Herschel Walker and Tim Brown… and the chance to win the “Ultimate BCS Road Trip”, consisting of six tickets to the BCS Championship Game, a new Pontiac G6 car and $6,000 in spending money. Let’s make University of Miami the winner in the “Pontiac Game Changing Performance” Competition this week.
