Hurricanes Suffer 1-0 Loss to Florida State
Oct. 19, 2004
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team could not overcome an unassisted goal by Florida State’s India Trotter in the 25th minute, falling 1-0 to the ninth-ranked Seminoles Tuesday evening at Cobb Stadium.
With the loss, the Hurricanes fall to 3-9-0 on the year and 1-7-0 in ACC play while the FSU improves to 12-3-1 and 5-2-1 in the ACC.
In a back-and-forth defensive struggle, Miami held the Seminoles, who entered the match averaging nearly 15 shots per contest, to just eight shots all night.
The Hurricanes would out-shoot the Seminoles 3-to-1 through the first 17 minutes of the first period with Kelly Pflugner, Lindsay Curtin and Ashley Durkee each missing an opportunity to put UM on the board.
After limiting the Seminoles to just one shot through 24 minutes, Miami surrendered the game-winner at the 24:20 mark when FSU’s Trotter played a ball attempting to be cleared out and connected on the lower right 90 past keeper Alex Alford from the top of the box.
The second period would play out as the first as the two schools fought for opportunities. Britney Butcher and Andrea Radice each nearly put Miami back into the match, but were denied by FSU keeper Joy McKenzie as the Seminoles held on to clinch the win.
The Hurricanes return to action Thursday night, taking on UCF at 7 p.m. at Cobb Stadium.
