Berlin, Hester Nab ACC Player of the Week Honors

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami quarterback Brock Berlin was named the ACC Offensive Back of the Week and Devin Hester was tabbed the Special Teams Player of the Week the conference announced on Monday.

It marked the second time Hester has won the award this season and the first such award for Berlin. Hester was also the special teams player of the week following the Louisiana Tech game on Sept. 18.

Berlin completed 25 of 37 passes for 302 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in Miami’s 41-38 come-from behind victory over 20th-ranked Louisville last Thursday night. On the game-winning drive, Berlin completed 4 of 6 passes for 36 yards and converted one third down and one fourth down. The 6-2, 215-pound senior from Shreveport, La., also rushed once for 11 yards and totaled 322 yards of total offense in the victory.

Hester returned three punts for 89 yards in Thursday’s 41-38 win over Louisville. The 5-11, 185-pound Riviera Beach, Fla., native had a 78-yard return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to give the Hurricanes their first lead of the game. Hester also returned four kickoffs for 95 yards and had a 100-yard return for a score nullified because of a penalty. Hester currently leads the NCAA in punt returns with a 32.3 per return average.

Miami has quickly made a name for itself in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The ACC names Players of the Week in six different categories (offensvie back, offensive line, defensive line, defensive back, special teams and rookie) and the Hurricanes have six ACC Players of the Week this season.

Antrel Rolle won the defensive back honor after the Florida State game and Hester following the Louisiana Tech game. Anthony Reddick was named the rookie of the week after the Houston game and Leon Williams was named the defensive lineman of the week following the Georgia Tech game.

Miami will practice again on beginning at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in shells. The Hurricanes and Cardinals are slated for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on ESPN on Thursday.
