Hurricanes Claim Five First Place Finishes at the Head of the Creek Regatta

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s rowing team won five of the six races at the 12th annual Head of the Creek Regatta held in Miami Beach, Sunday afternoon.
“I am pleased with our team’s performance today,” said head coach Debra Morgan. “I saw a lot of our rowers who have been making some big technical changes in practice, apply those changes today during the races. We have a long way to go before the spring season begins in March, but we’ve got plenty of time and a great first performance today to kick it all off.”
The Hurricanes Varsity 8+ crew of Jessica Martin, Karen Wiley, Sarah Conlon, Anna Cohen, Marenda Chamberlin, Laura Coltman, Sarah Stocks, Yassi Haririnia and Deirdre Curran, claimed first place in the Championship eight coming in a time of 16:12.21.
The championship 4+ crew of Meghan Leydecker, Laura Coltman, Sarah Stocks, Bethany Krawec and Deirdre Curran, also placed first clocking in at 18:12.33.
The club four team placed in third behind Nova and Barry with a time of 19:20.35.
The Championship quad came in first with a time of 17:24.76 and the novice eight raced a time of 19:55.93 to close out the day.
The Hurricanes return to action when they travel to Gainesville, Fla. for the Head of the Chattahoochee November 6th-7th.
