Chudzinski Resigns to Join Cleveland Browns

Jan. 12, 2004

University of Miami offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Rob Chudzinski has resigned to accept the position of tight ends coach with the Cleveland Browns it was announced today.

“To say that my time as a player and coach at UM was special would be an understatement,” Chudzinski said. “However it has always been a goal of mine to coach in the NFL and the opportunity to do so was something that I felt I could not pass up at this time. I am a native of Toledo, and am at the stage in my personal life where I can make an easy transition, so those were factors as well. I will miss the players and coaches and want to especially thank Coach Coker for his guidance and support. I also want to thank President Shalala, Paul Dee and all the other people in the athletic department that have become family. The Hurricane program is in great hands and will remain the best in the Nation for years to come.”

The 35-year old Chudzinski had spent his entire playing and coaching career as a member of the Hurricanes. He was a three-year letterman as a tight end from 1988-90 and played on two National Championship teams during that time (1987 and 1989). Following his playing career, he served a graduate assistant during the 1994-95 season and then was hired full-time in 1996. Chudzinski served in that capacity until being promoted to offensive coordinator when Larry Coker was hired as head coach in 2000. Under Chudzinski’s tutelage, UM has produced the First-Team All-Big East tight end the past six years.

UM Head Coach Larry Coker said, “Rob’s contributions to the UM football program as both a player and coach have been invaluable. While he will be missed on both a personal and professional level, I am confident we will find an excellent coach to compliment our football program and university.”

At Miami, Chudzinski excelled off the field as well. He maintained a perfect 4.0 grade average in 1989, was Miami’s first NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship recipient and earned an MBA in 1996.
