Hurricanes Open 2004 Practice
Aug. 10, 2004
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami football team opened the 2004 fall practice schedule with an efficient two-hour-and-15-minute workout at the Greentree Practice Facility in shorts and helmets.
“I really thought it was a good first day,” head coach Larry Coker said. “The efficiency was a little better than you would hope. We practiced in shorts, so they should be pretty efficient.”
The hot and humid weather also played a role in the in the Hurricanes’ first practice. Several UM players suffered through cramps during the workout session, but the team got through the practice without any injuries.
Coker referenced the play-making abilities of the Hurricanes’ quarterbacks and was impressed with the play of sophomore wide receiver Darnell Jenkins. Running back Frank Gore also participated in drills a full speed for the first time since suffering a season-ending knee injury against West Virginia last season.
“I though Frank Gore looked really looked like Frank Gore at running back, and I was encouraged by that,” Coker said.
The Hurricanes will return to the practice field at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 11.
