Bounds Advances to Synchronized Platform Finals at 2004 U.S. Olympic Diving Team Trials

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami freshman diver Heather Bounds (Austin, Texas) advanced to the finals of the women’s synchronized platform competition with a fourth place finish in the preliminaries Wednesday evening at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials at the St. Peters Rec-Plex in St. Peters, Mo.

Bounds paired with Ohio State’s Ashley Bourland to turn in a score of 212.07 on five dives, placing fourth to qualify for the synchronized platform finals Thursday.

Fellow Hurricane freshman Derek Starks (Mission Viejo, Calif.) teamed with SMU’s Beau Sydes in the men’s 3-meter synchronized prelims for a ninth place finish, missing the final cut by just 7.95 points.

The 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials will continue Thursday with the men’s synchronized platform prelims followed by the women’s synchronized platform finals and the men’s synchronized platform finals.
