Women's Tennis Earns BIG EAST Awards

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-University of Miami women’s tennis head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews was named 2004 BIG EAST Coach of the Year and No. 4-ranked Megan Bradley (Columbia, Mo.) was named the Most Outstanding Player.
Bradley earned Most Outstanding Player accolades for the second consecutive year by leading the Hurricanes to their second BIG EAST title in three years. The junior won both of her matches at No. 1 singles, surrendering just two opponent points.
Bradley is one of four automatic qualifiers for the ITA South Region in the NCAA Individual Tournament held in Athens, Ga. May 24-29.
Bradley was also named to the all-tournament team. Senior Mari Toro (Miami, Fla.) and sophomore Melissa Applebaum (Coral Gables, Fla.) were named to the all-tournament team in singles play.
Applebaum and Bradley were also named to the all-tournament team in doubles play.
The Hurricanes claimed their eighth BIG EAST Championship title knocking-off No.1 seeded Notre Dame 4-0 at the BIG EAST Championships in Coral Gables, Fla.
Yaroshuk-Tews guided the team to a 17-3 overall record and a National Ranking of No. 23 this season. Miami also will make its ninth consecutive NCCA appearance facing South Alabama in the first round Friday, May 14 in Gainesville, Fla.
In her three years at UM, Yaroshuk-Tews has led the Hurricanes to three straight NCAA tournament appearances and a 48-17 record.
The Hurricanes went undefeated at home this season posting a 14-0 mark in Coral Gables. The team compiled a 93-19 (.830) singles record in dual play this season.
