Hurricanes Blank St. John's, 4-0 to Finish Third at the 2004 BIG EAST Championships

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The third-seeded University of Miami men’s tennis team downed No. 4 seed St. John’s, 4-0 Saturday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in the consolation bracket of the 2004 BIG EAST Tennis Championships to place third overall in the conference tournament.
The Hurricanes (14-8), took a lead early in the match, clinching the doubles point behind a win at No. 3 by freshman Josh Cohen (Weston, Fla.) and redshirt freshman P.J. Passalacqua (Naples, Fla.) over SJU’s Morgan Bauer and Todd Goldberg, 8-2 followed by UM sophomore John Hoyes (Miami, Fla.) and sophomore Jeremiah Fuller’s (Emmaus, Pa.) win over David Nylen and Claudio Halim, 8-3 at No. 2.
Miami sophomore Tim Krebs (Eschborn, Germany) pulled out a win at No. 6 singles, downing the Red Storm’s Goldberg in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Fuller followed suite at No. 5, upending Halim, 6-4, 6-1 while sophomore Colin Purcell defeated Bauer, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 bringing the final score to 4-0, giving UM the win and third place in the tournament.
