Saturday Scrimmage Report
March 27, 2004
Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – Twenty-four plays of scrimmaging in full pads capped a tough practice Saturday morning as the Miami Hurricanes football team completed its first week of spring practice at Greentree Practice Field on the University of Miami campus. The Hurricanes will continue spring practice Monday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Greentree.
The scrimmage portion of Saturday’s practice came in the final 30 minutes of drills and, while making note of some mental mistakes typical of work early in the spring, head football coach Larry Coker praised the play of his defense Saturday.
“We were intense on both sides of the football, and we needed to be,” Coker said. “Our defense is looking good, but I was a little disappointed with some of the offensive mistakes. Overall, though, usually the first day in pads is very, very sloppy. But they handled it pretty well. I was happy about that.”
On the injury front, receiver was held out of the scrimmage due to an unspecified injury and tight end Brandon Sebald left the scrimmage after suffering an injury following a short reception.
Saturday morning’s practice was the fourth of 15 sessions that will conclude on Thursday, April 10.
All spring practices are closed to the public with the exception of the Friday, April 2, workout at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale and the Spring Game slated for Saturday, April 17, at the Orange Bowl.
