Hurricanes Overpower Georgia Southern, 7-0

CORAL GABLES, Fla.
The 31st-ranked University of Miami men’s tennis team swept all three doubles matches along with each of six singles matches en route to a 7-0 victory over Georgia Southern Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center to improve to 11-3 on the year.
With the win, the Hurricanes improve to 9-1 at home this season while GSU falls to 6-14 overall.
The Hurricanes’ tandem of Tim Krebs (Eschborn, Germany) and Colin Purcell (Louisville, Ky.) jumpstarted the day with a win at No. 1 doubles, overtaking GSU’s Danie Van Den Heever and Vincent Patry, 8-1.
Miami’s Josh Cohen (Weston, Fla.) and Eric Hechtman (Miami, Fla.) then sealed the doubles point for UM, upending Stephen Dubienski and Charles-Henri Trottet, 8-6 in the No. 2 spot followed by John Hoyes (Miami, Fla.) and Jeremiah Fuller (Emmaus, Pa.) downing the Eagles’ Germano Knorr and Lasha Janashia, 8-6 at No. 3.
The Hurricanes continued to roll in singles play with Hoyes handling Knorr in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 and Cohen rolling past Patry, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1.
Krebs would clinch the Miami victory at No. 3, defeating Van Den Heever, 6-2, 6-4.
Purcell, Hechtman and Fuller would each win in straight sets, downing Trottet, Janashia and Dubienski in the No. 5, 2 and 1 spots, respectively.
The Hurricanes will return to action Friday, March 26 hosting the nation’s No. 1 team, Illinois at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The match is slated for 6 p.m. Admission is free.
