CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 32nd-ranked University of Miami men’s tennis team could not hold off No. 13 Texas A&M Monday night as the Aggies downed the Hurricanes, 6-1 in College Station, Texas.

Texas A&M (13-8) took the doubles point when Mohamed Dakki and Khaled El Dorry overtook UM’s (9-2) Eric Hechtman and John Hoyes, 8-3 in the No. 1 spot followed by a win by Brett Joelson and Marvin Rolle at No. 2 when the Hurricanes’ tandem of Jeremiah Fuller and P. J. Passalacqua was forced to retire with the Aggies leading 6-3.

Heading into singles play, A&M jumped to a 2-0 lead with a default point at No. 6.

Miami’s Hechtman, who, playing No. 1 singles for only the second time this season, would suffer his first loss of the year in singles play, falling to No. 21 Lester Cook in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5 to give the Aggies a 3-0 lead.

A&M’s El Dorry then clinched the match for Aggies with a win at No. 5, overtaking Fuller, 6-4, 6-1.

Miami’s Colin Purcell would earn the Hurricanes’ only point of the night, defeating Joelson, 7-6 (3), 6-3 to win his ninth straight match of the season.

“Even with the loss, I’m really proud of the way our guys played tonight,” Head Coach Bryan Getz said. “This was a great atmosphere, and with everyone rooting against us, our guys really pulled together and played as a team and that all that any coach can ask for.”

The Hurricanes return to action Wednesday, March 17, traveling to Fort Worth, Texas to take on No. 7 Texas Christian University.
