Hurricane Swimming and Diving Downs Florida A&M, Indian River CC

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami swimming and diving team captured ten first place finishes in 15 events to defeat Florida A&M and Indian River Community College on Saturday afternoon in Ft. Pierce, Fla.
Two Hurricane swimmers, sophomore Martyna Krawczyk (Looz, Poland) and freshman Kristen Lunak (Pembroke Pines, Fla.), took two first place finishes in the Miami wins.
Krawczyk touched in with a season-best time of 1:05.27 to win the 100-yard breaststroke and finished with winning time of 2:09.48 in the 200-yard butterfly while Lunak finished with personal-best marks in both the 400-yard IM (4:32.33) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.28).
Freshman Ashley Knapp (Walnut Creek, Calif.) took the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 1:01.32 despite never competing in the event prior to today and junior Katalin Ferenczi (Pa’Pa, Hungary) finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.31.
Freshman Lindsey Fox (Lake Forest, Ill.) set a Miami season-best time of 24.62 to win the 50-yard freestyle.

The Miami diving team swept the women’s competition, taking first and second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard.
Senior All-American Emily Spychala (Tampa, Fla.) turned in a season-high score of 289.85 to win the 1-meter just ahead of teammate freshman Heather Bounds (Austin, Texas). Bounds would take the 3-meter with a personal-best score of 297.90 edging out of Spychala who finished with a mark of 261.23.
The Hurricanes wrap up the dual season with an overall record of 6-7 and will return to action on Feb. 19-21, competing at the BIG EAST Championships in Uniondale, N.Y.
