Nov. 26, 2003

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – Two University of Miami redshirt freshman football players – receiver Ryan Moore and placekicker Jon Peattie – have been named First Team Freshman All-Americans by Rivals.com, the internet-based news service announced Wednesday.

Moore (Orlando, Fla./Dr.Phillips) is second on the Hurricanes in receptions with 39 catches for a team-best 572 yards (14.7 avg.) and is tied for the team lead with three touchdown receptions. He has led the team in receptions in one game this season (Louisiana Tech) and in receiving yards once (at Virginia Tech). His best outing of the season came in a loss at Virginia Tech when Moore made seven catches for a game-high 107 yards, including a 39-yard grab. Moore’s totals are the best by a freshman receiver at Miami since Reggie Wayne in 1997 (48 rec., 640 yards, 2 TDs). Moore has a chance to become the first Hurricane to lead the team in receiving yards since Wayne did so that season.

Peattie leads all freshmen nationally in scoring with 88 points through 11 games and has kicked 19 field goals in 23 attempts. The 19 field goals made already ranks among the ninth for a career in Miami history and is tied for third on the Miami single-season list (record is 21 by Carlos Huerta, 1988, and Todd Sievers, 2001). His 88 kicking points ranks tied for seventh in a season at Miami and he is tied for 10th in overall scoring in a season by a UM player. Peattie currently ranks third in the BIG EAST in scoring and is 11th nationally in field goals with an average of 1.73 per game. His five field goals against West Virginia, including a game-winner in the final seconds, is a Miami single-game record. At one point this season, Peattie had made 10 consecutive field goal attempts, the third-best streak in Miami history.
