Tamara James Earns BIG EAST Honors

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-Tamara James (Dania, Fla.) earns BIG EAST honors after helping the Miami women’s basketball team win its first two games of the season.

James was named BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week after averaging 26.0 points and 6.5 rebounds to guide Miami to a 2-0 start beating Morehead State (93-54) and Eastern Kentucky (90-81) at the Morehead Tourism Tip-Off Classic in Morehead, Ky.

She shared the weekly honor with Rebekkah Brunson of Georgetown who averaged a double-double (20.0 ppg, 14.0 rpg).

James shot 72.4 percent (21-29) from the field over the weekend.

James set a new career-high of 37 points in the win over EKU on Sunday. James, who also pulled down seven boards, connected on 14-18 from the field, including 1-3 from three-point range, and 8-12 from the line.

She scored 15 points in the win over MSU and grabbed six rebounds.

This marks the first time she is named Player of the Week after being named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week five times last season.
