Hurricanes Wrap Up Final Day of the Minnesota Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. (hurricanesports.com) – Freshman swimmer Tara Erwin and junior diver Miguel Velazquez each took first place finishes at the final day of the Minnesota Invitational on Sunday afternoon to lead the University of Miami women’s and men’s teams to seventh and eighth place finishes respectively.

The Hurricanes’ women’s team took seventh place with an overall score of 288.0 points, edging out Iowa State.

Erwin took the top spot in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:45.58. Miami would also receive help from a number of freshman with Katalin Ferenczi finishing second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:02.32 and Nancy Gajos finishing with a time of 2:03.59 for a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly and freshman diver Heather Bounds turned in a score of 359.25 to take the third spot in the women’s platform.

Velazquez would take first place in the men’s platform with a score of 537.75 to give the Hurricanes an eighth place finish with 57.0 total points.
