Hurricane Swimming and Diving has Strong Showing at First Day of the Minnesota Invitational

Minnesota, – Junior diver Miguel Velazquez turned in a score of 607.85 to take top honors in the three-meter dive at the Minnesota Invitational on Friday afternoon.

Velazquez’s first place finished helped the Miami men’s team to a ninth place finish at the invite.

The UM women’s team also performed well on the first day of the event, producing an eighth place finish.

Senior diver Emily Spychala had a third place finish in the one-meter diving event, posting a score of 262.05. In the lanes, Tara Erwin had a strong finish in the 500-yard freestyle, coming up with a time of 5:07.08 and Ashley Knapp added a time of 5:15.15 in the preliminaries. In the 200-yard IM preliminaries, Adrien Furgeson finished with a time of 2:09.62.

The Hurricanes will continue with the second day of the Minnesota Invitational on Saturday at noon.
