UM Swimmers Open Home Schedule Versus FAU

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s swimming and diving won nine of 16 events to highlight its first home meet of the season versus FAU at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool in Coral Gables, Fla.
Four Hurricanes were dual winners on Saturday including freshman Tara Erwin (Erving, N.J.) who won the 500-yard freestyle (5:11.19) and 1000-yard freestyle (10:26.15), and junior Katalin Ferenzci (Pa’Pa, Hungary) who finished first in the 100-yard backstroke (58.17) and 200-yard backstroke (2:05.42).Freshman Nancy Gajos (Mississuga, Ontario) finished first in the 100-yard butterfly (57.16) and 200-yard butterfly (2:03.74), while senior Emily Spychala (Miami, Fla.) who won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events.
“We made some mental mistakes early but recovered pretty well as the meet went on,” said head coach Mariusz Podkoscielny. “Florida Atlantic is a very good team and they showed us that we still have a ways to go.”
In addition to the dual winners, UM sophomore Adrien Ferguson (Oklahoma City, Okla.) won the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:31.86.
Miami returns to action November 20-22 at the Minnesota Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
