Soccer Hosts Syracuse In Home Finale

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The University of Miami soccer team will host BIG EAST Northeast division opponent Syracuse in its regular season home finale Sunday at Noon at Cobb Stadium in Coral Gables, Fla.
Miami enters the contest 8-6-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the BIG EAST, Syracuse is 8-5-1 overall and 2-1-1 in league play.
The Hurricanes are in fourth place in the conference with six points. The Orangewomen are in third with seven points, while St. John’s and Connecticut are tied at the top of the division with nine points.
The top four teams in the division will advance to the BIG EAST Tournament, which begins on Saturday Nov. 1.
The Orangewomen hold the slight advantage in the all-time series leading 2-1-1. Miami tied SU 2-2 in double overtime in Syracuse last season.
Both Miami and Syracuse are coming off of double overtime matches. Miami tied East Carolina 2-2 in Greenville, N.C. on Friday, while SU fell 3-2 at Dartmouth on Wednesday.
Miami seniors Mary Luke (Ft. Pierce, Fla.), Vonda Matthews (Broken Arrow, Okla.) and Michelle Provenzano (Davie, Fla.) will be honored.
Lindsey Yach leads UM with 18 points on eight goals and two assists. Goalkeeper Alex Alford has started all 14 games for the Hurricanes and owns a 1.56 goals against average with five shutouts.
