Men's Tennis Hosts The UM Fall Classic

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The University of Miami men’s tennis team will host the UM Fall Classic Sept. 19-21 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on the UM campus. Admission is free.

The UM Fall Classic welcomes Alabama, Central Florida and NC State to Coral Gables. On Friday, action begins at 10 a.m. with Alabama matching up against UCF. Miami will face NC State at 6 p.m.

Play continues Saturday morning with UCF versus NC State at 10 a.m. followed by Miami versus Alabama at 2 p.m.

Sunday morning Alabama will face NC State at 9 a.m. and Miami will close out play with UCF at 1 p.m.

The tournament will be a hidden dual format; all matches will consist of singles and doubles with only individual scoring recorded.

The team returns five letterwinners from last season’s NCAA Tournament team. The Hurricanes made their seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance under newly appointed head coach Bryan Getz. The team finished with an overall record of 13-8 ranked No. 33 in the nation. The Hurricanes were the No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament.

Eric Hechtman (Miami, Fla.) and Colin Purcell (Louisville, Ky.) return for their sophomore campaign after leading the Hurricanes last season. Hechtman recorded 22 wins as a freshman, including a 15-4 mark in dual play. Purcell went 19-16 overall including a record of 10-4 at No. 4 singles.
