A Letter to All Hurricane Club Members from Paul Dee

On June 30th, University of Miami President Donna Shalala, along with Hurricane Athletic Director Paul Dee, announced that Miami would join the Atlantic Coast Conference effective as of 2004. The move brings countless new benefits including a conference for our championship baseball program that had previously played as an independent and the opportunity for joint academic ventures with prestigious ACC institutions such as Duke and Wake Forest. James Jones Selected in NBA Draft

Congratulations to former Miami forward James Jones who was selected in the second round of last Thursday’s draft, 49th overall by the Indiana Pacers. Jones averaged 16.9 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.8 blocks per game last season in earning an All-Big East honorable mention. Jones, who was also a standout in the classroom, is the only UM basketball player to earn Verizon Academic All-America honors.Read it here

CANESFEST 2003

CanesFest is right around the corner and will be at the Broward County Convention Center on Saturday, July 26th from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Day two at the South Florida Fairgrounds will be held on Sunday, July 27th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Both events are FREE. Be sure to come out and enjoy all that CanesFest 2003 has to offer. CanesFest will include an autograph session with many current student athletes, an interactive zone for kids, a silent auction with a number of great UM items, a raffle, food, entertainment and a chance to gather the scoop on the upcoming seasons ahead for many of UM teams, including football. Two Basketball Camps Added at UM

University of Miami head men’s basketball coach Perry Clark announced the addition of two basketball shooting camps to be conducted this summer on the UM campus in Coral Gables. The sessions will take place July 12-13 (grades 3-12) and July 19-20 (grades 3-8), and will be held at the air-conditioned Knight Sports Complex. Cost of each session is $130, which includes a $50 non-refundable deposit. Please remember that any remaining gifts on your pledge should be made prior to August 1st to ensure that your season football tickets are received in a timely fashion. Time Set for Home Opener vs. UF

The Hurricanes are scheduled to play their home opener against the Florida Gators on September 6th in the Orange Bowl. Coverage begins at 8PM on ABC, but season ticket packages are still available.
