Williams 7th In 100 Finals at USATF Championships

PALO ALTO, Calif. (www.hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami sophomore sprinter Lauryn Williams (Rochester, Pa.) placed seventh in the 100-meter dash finals late Friday night at the USA Track and Field Championships in Palo Alto, Calif.

Williams, the 100-meter 2002 World Junior Champion who placed third recently at the NCAA Championships, ran a time of 11.34 seconds for the seventh-place finish, edging Southern California’s Angela Daigle (11.39). Kelli White won the race in 10.93, followed by Torri Edwards (11.13) and Gail Devers (11.16). Williams had advanced to the finals by running 11.45 in the semi-finals earlier Friday evening.

A trio of Miami athletes competed at the USA Championships. Joining Williams was freshman Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern HS) in the 400 and senior Jamillah Wade (Philadelphia, Pa.) in the 400-meter hurdles. Greggs was eliminated in the semi-finals of the 400, running a time of 53.77 for the 11th fastest qualifying time overall (eight runners advanced to the final). Wade was eliminated in the qualifying rounds of the 400 hurdles.
