Greggs Takes Eighth In 400-Meters At NCAA Championships

June 14, 2003

Sacramento, CA (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami freshman Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) finished eighth in the finals of the 400-meters to earn All-America honors in her second event of the weekend at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, CA.

Greggs, who earned All-America honors on Friday as a member of the 4×100-meter relay, finished in a time of 52.19 seconds. She is the first Hurricane in UM history to earn All-America honors in the 400-meters.

“Starting in lane seven you need to get out fast and try to hold on at the end,” said Greggs. “Unfortunately I wasn’t able to do that today. I went out hard at the start and just ran out of gas at the finish.”

Greggs will attempt to become the first Hurricane in school-history to earn All-America honors in three separate events at the NCAA Championships when she runs the anchor leg of the 4×400-meter relay later tonight (9:20 p.m. PT).
