Widom Moves Into Semifinals of NCAA's

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-No. 21-ranked Todd Widom knocked off No. 4 Bo Hodge of Georgia in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Tournament Saturday afternoon in Athens, Ga.
Widom kept his hopes alive for a national singles title with the only straight set victory of the day.
He beat Hodge 6-3 in the first and 7-5 in the second set.
“Todd got on top early (5-2) in the first set and took the crowd out of the match,” said Bryan Getz. “He played his best match that I’ve seen in his career at Miami, I am so proud of him.”
The sophomore from Coral Springs, Fla. improves his singles record to 27-8 on the season.
Widom will now face Baylor’s Benedikt Dorsch who posted a 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 victory over 68th-ranked Oscar Chow of Columbia.
The two faced each other on October 11, 2002 in the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn. Dorsch defeated Widom in three sets 6-3, 6-7 (5), 7-5.
The semifinal match is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon in Athens.
