Widom to Face Ram

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – – University of Miami men’s tennis player Todd Widom (Coral Springs, Fla.) will face Rajeev Ram of Illinois today at noon in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championships at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.

Going into the match, Widom is ranked No. 21 according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, while Ram is ranked No. 22.

Widom has never defeated an Illini player and he lost to Ram 6-2, 6-3 in their only other meeting March 3 at Illinois during a 7-0 loss for the Hurricanes.

Andrew Golub and partner Colin Purcell will compete in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Doubles Championships today in Athens, Ga.

Last season, Widom advanced to the Sweet 16 before finally falling to Nick Rainey of USC.

Also competing today are doubles pairing Andrew Golub and Colin Purcell who will face Jean Simon and Jose Zarhi of Texas at 3:30 p.m. in Athens.

Golub and Purcell are ranked 30th by the ITA while Zarhi and Simon are No. 20.
