Widom Wins

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – – University of Miami men’s tennis player Todd Widom (Coral Springs, Fla.) advanced to the second round of the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championships Wednesday after defeating Jonathan Chu of Harvard 6-2, 7-5 at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.

Going into the match, Widom was ranked No. 21 according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, while Chu was ranked No. 95. It was the first meeting between the two competitors in collegiate play.

Thursday, Widom will play the winner of today’s 2:30 match between Rajeev Ram of Illinois (seeded No. 35) and Chad Harris of Vanderbilt (seeded No. 36).
