Men's Tennis Set To Compete In NCAA Individuals

CORAL GABLES, Fla.- University of Miami men’s tennis player Todd Widom will compete in the 2003 NCAA Men’s Tennis Championships Wednesday at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.
Seeded No. 34 out of the field of 64, Widom (Coral Springs, Fla.) will first face Jonathan Chu of Harvard, seeded No. 33.
If Widom wins, he will face either Rajeev Ram of Illinois or Chad Harris of Vanderbilt.
Widom was ranked consistently in the ITA’s top 25 and finished the season with a 23-8 record (13-5 in dual-match play).
Last season, Widom advanced to the Sweet 16 before finally falling to Nick Rainey of USC.
The first round of singles play will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
Also competing are doubles pair Andrew Golub (Miami, Fla.) and Colin Purcell (Louisville, Ky.). Doubles competition will begin on Thursday.
The duo recorded a win over the No. 2-ranked Illinois pair Amer Delic and Michael Calkins 9-8 (4) earlier this season.
