Soccer Honors Seniors & Team MVP

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-Sophomore Britney Butcher (Bothell, Wash.) was named Most Valuable Player of the 2002 Miami soccer team announced at the first annual Student-Athlete Award Ceremony, celebrating the accomplishments of the Miami Olympic Sports student-athletes.
Butcher was named to the All-BIG EAST second team. She led Miami with 34 points including 16 goals and two assists.
She set new single-season records for most goals in a season (16) and the most points (34) in a season. She also set new career records for most goals in a career (24) and the most points (58).
First-year head coach Tricia Taliaferro also honored six graduating seniors, Rachel Elsby, Lisa Gomez, Sam Hernandez, Allison McWhinney, Ashley West and Laura West.
The Hurricanes wrapped up the season with a 9-9-1 overall record and a 4-1-1 record in the BIG EAST Northeast Division.
