UM Women Qualify Six For NCAA Regionals

GAINESVILLE, FL (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’strack and field team broke one school-record and had six athletes record NCAARegional qualifying marks at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, FL.
The Hurricanes had four runners qualify for the NCAA RegionalChampionships, May 30-31 in Fairfax, VA in the 400-meters. SeniorAll-American Sashanie Simpson (Miami, FL) led Miami with a time of 54.24seconds. Simpson’s time was good for fourth. All-American Saraque Whittaker(Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas) took fifth with a time of 54.28, whilesophomore Wiande Moore (Spring, TX) finished ninth with a mark of 54.83.Junior All-American Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern) finished 10th with anNCAA Regional qualifying time of 54.86.
In addition, senior All-American Jamillah Wade (Philadelphia, PA)finished fifth in the 400-hurdles with an regional qualifying time of 59.21seconds, while senior All-American Sharianne Lawson qualified in the100-meters hurdles (13.36). Lawson finished fourth in the event.
The day was also highlighted by the performance of senior Megan Cobb(Ypsilanti, MI) in the hammer throw. Cobb broke her own school-record for thesecond consecutive week with a toss of 48.76 meters (160-00). With her throwCobb becomes the first women’s thrower in school-history to reach the160-foot plateau.
Competition concludes on Saturday, March 29 with field eventsbeginning at noon. Running events will begin at 3 p.m.
