Hurricanes Sweep Portland

SEATTLE, Wash. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s tennis team rebounded from a disappointing 6-1 loss to Washington with a convincing 7-0 win over the University of Portland Saturday in Seattle, Wash.
The Hurricanes did not yield a single set throughout the match and improved to 10-3 with the victory.
UM swept all three pairings for the doubles point as Melissa Applebaum (Coral Gables, Fla.) and Megan Bradley (Columbia, Mo.) beat Amy Juppenlatz and Sanja Indic 8-3 at first singles; Igna deVilliers (Capetown, South Africa) and Abby Smith (Chicago, Ill.) defeated Alyson Tyson and Kaori Tanabe 8-5 at second doubles; and Staci Stevens (Hammond, La.) and Mari Toro (Miami, Fla.) easily handled Kellee Menke and Dierdre Ring-Marrinson 8-1.
The Hurricanes were able to roll through the singles matches too.
At first singles, Applebaum defeated Juppenlatz 6-0, 6-1; at second singles, Bradley beat Tanabe 6-0, 6-2; Mari Toro toppled Sanja Indic 6-0, 6-2 at third singles; Stevens beat Tyson 6-2, 6-0 at fourth singles; at fifth singles, Sihem Bennacer beat Ring-Marrinson 6-1, 6-0; and, at sixth singles, Sara Robbins defeated Kellee Menke 6-2, 6-0.
